ST. LOUIS — The Philadelphia Phillies' center fielder was the big story a day after Rick Ankiel's harrowing headfirst crash into the wall.

Shane Victorino was 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs and Jayson Werth had a three-run shot and four RBIs in a 10-7 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals last night. Victorino has a 14-game hitting streak.

"I don't really want to talk about it," said Victorino, a St. Anthony alum from Maui. "When you feel good, you feel good. I just want to be the player I can be."

Ankiel watched from the dugout in a warmup jersey after escaping a potentially dangerous situation with a bruised right shoulder the worst of his minor injuries, lessening the blow a bit from the Cardinals' first three-game losing streak of the season.

"You saw it, I saw it," loser Adam Wainwright said. "He was probably an inch from breaking his neck. We're very fortunate he's all right. So's he."

Ryan Ludwick and Yadier Molina hit solo homers in a span of three at-bats to help the Cardinals cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fourth. Werth answered with a three-run shot in the fifth off Wainwright (3-1).

GIANTS 6, CUBS 2:

Tim Lincecum (3-1) allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings and Bengie Molina hit a three-run homer, leading visiting San Francisco over Chicago, which rested five regulars and used a lineup featuring six players who were in the minors as recently as 2007.

NATIONALS 10, ASTROS 10:

Cristian Guzman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that put Washington ahead 10-9, but Houston tied it in the ninth on Geoff Blum's sacrifice fly and the game was suspended by rain in the bottom of the 11th.

BREWERS 8, PIRATES 5:

J.J. Hardy had three hits and drove in four runs and Jeff Suppan (2-2) gave up three runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings as visiting Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh for the 17th consecutive time, the majors' longest winning streak by one team against another in nearly 40 years.

REDS 7, MARLINS 0:

Brandon Phillips tied a career high with six RBIs and Edinson Volquez (4-2) spaced three hits in eight innings to extend his streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 16 1/3 as visiting Cincinnati recorded its sixth shutout this season, and its fourth in the past six games.

METS 4, BRAVES 3:

Livan Hernandez (2-1) gave up a run and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to earn his fourth win in 25 career starts against Atlanta and Carlos Delgado had two hits, including a two-run single in the ninth, as New York completed a two-game series sweep at Turner Field.

PADRES 2, ROCKIES 1:

Slumping Brian Giles' double off the center-field wall with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning scored pinch-hitter Edgar Gonzalez — who walked with one out — from first base as San Diego beat Colorado to snap a six-game losing streak.

DODGERS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 1:

Jeff Weaver (1-0) allowed a run and five hits over five innings as Los Angeles beat Arizona to tie the modern major league record for the longest home winning streak to start a season, improving to 12-0 at Chavez Ravine with its sixth straight victory.

BLUE JAYS 10, INDIANS 6:

Adam Lind hit a three-run homer and Scott Rolen added a solo shot in a seven-run bottom of the seventh against four relievers as Toronto rallied past Cleveland, which scored four times in the top of the seventh for a 6-3 lead.

RAYS 6, ORIOLES 3:

Matt Garza (3-2) allowed three runs and four hits over eight innings, and major league RBI leader Evan Longoria hit a run-scoring double to tie it at 3 in the sixth and added a two-run single in the seventh to make it 6-3 as host Tampa Bay beat Baltimore.

RANGERS 7, MARINERS 2:

Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a grand slam that capped a six-run burst with two outs in the top of the 10th inning off Denny Stark (0-1), who retired the first two batters before the onslaught, as Texas beat Seattle for its fourth straight victory.

RED SOX 7, YANKEES 3:

Jason Bay hit a three-run homer in a four-run first inning against Joba Chamberlain (1-1), and Josh Beckett (3-2) spaced 10 hits over six innings, including Johnny Damon's three-run homer in the third, as Boston completed a two-game sweep in the new Yankee Stadium.

TIGERS 9, TWINS 0:

Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer, Clete Thomas had a triple, double, single and walk — driving in two runs — in his season debut, and rookie Rick Porcello (2-3) gave up four hits in seven innings to lead host Detroit past Minnesota.

ROYALS 8, WHITE SOX 7:

John Buck lined a single past third baseman Josh Fields with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th to help Kansas City complete a comeback from a 4-0 deficit and beat Chicago.

Gary Matthews Jr. drove in three runs, and Shane Loux (2-2) allowed five hits and one run over seven innings to win his second straight start after a 5 1/2-year stretch without a major league victory as visiting Los Angeles beat Oakland for its sixth win in eight games.
