City warns of paramedic service telephone scam

Advertiser Staff

Residents are being warned about a questionable telephone solicitation involving the purchase of a medical identification card for paramedic services.

The city Emergency Services Department said residents have reported receiving calls from some one who claims that they need to purchase an identification card that is required by ambulance personnel. The caller says that paramedics require the information contained on this card when responding to a 911 call.
The caller also says that there is a minimal fee associated with the processing of the card and asks that the resident provide personal medical and billing information over the phone.
Emergency Services officials remind residents that paramedics do not require any type of medical identification card. City personnel also do not solicit financial information from patients.
