WAILUKU — Maui County’s Department of Environmental Management reported today that a wastewater overflow of about 933 gallons occurred at 11:43 a.m. yesterday in Kihei.
The overflow occurred when a suction connection broke while operators were disconnecting a pump at the Kihei Wastewater Reclamation Facility. Wastewater flowed down the driveway of the facility and a small amount entered a storm drain on Piilani Highway.
The storm drain has no outlet to the ocean. The spill site was disinfected and the state Department of Health notified.
