Sundaeholics can revel in lighter dessert

Q. My family has gotten into the habit of enjoying ice cream sundaes on a weekly basis. Is there a healthful version of an ice cream sundae?
A. We can definitely whip up a lighter and more nutritious ice cream sundae. But if you are picturing hot fudge and whipped cream, you might be disappointed. This dessert tops some light vanilla ice cream (there are some great-tasting brands out there) with assorted textures, flavors and colors of fresh fruit. A sprinkle of ground cinnamon and a drizzle of honey finishes off the dessert.
Now the sundae contributes 2 grams of fiber along with a nice dose of antioxidant vitamins like vitamin C and key minerals like calcium and potassium.
A small hot fudge sundae at a major fast food chain contains 333 calories, 11 grams fat, 6.5 g saturated fat and only .7 grams fiber.
FRESH FRUIT ICE CREAM SUNDAE
Using a cookie dough scoop, make two to three mini scoops of ice cream and place in serving bowl (about 1/2 cup total of ice cream).
Top with assorted fresh or frozen fruit. Sprinkle a pinch or two of ground cinnamon over the top then drizzle some honey over the top. Enjoy!
Makes 1 serving.
