24 firefighters extinguish brushfire near Weed Circle
Honolulu firefighters extinguished a 10-acre wildfire yesterday above Weed Circle near Hale'iwa.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the fire was reported about 11:25 a.m., and that firefighters contained it within an hour. The blaze was in a gulch and fed on dry brush and grass, but it was fully extinguished by about 4 p.m., Seelig said.
Twenty-four firefighters responded, using four engines, three tankers, a brush truck and the HFD helicopter to control the fire, Seelig said.
The cause was under investigation.
Seelig said a power line was down in the area, but it was not known whether the line caused the fire or if it was down as a result of the blaze.
