LONDON — She dreamed a dream, and it very nearly came true.

But Susan Boyle's reality show journey finished yesterday with a second-place finish in the finals of "Britain's Got Talent," an ending that didn't fit the fairy tale. Instead of the 48-year-old Internet sensation, an exuberant dance troupe called "Diversity" took the $159,000 prize and will perform for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Show.

Boyle looked almost relieved when her name was called as the runner-up. She recovered in time to praise the dancers.

"The best people won," Boyle said. "They're very entertaining. Lads, I wish you all the best."

PRINCE PLAYS POLO IN N.Y. FOR CHARITY

NEW YORK — Prince Harry reminded New Yorkers yesterday how much his mother had loved their city, then climbed onto a pony for a rousing game of polo to raise money for impoverished children in Africa.

On a sunny day on Governors Island in New York Harbor, the 24-year-old prince drew a crowd that included stars like Madonna, actresses Kate Hudson and Chloe Sevigny, and rapper LL Cool J, but also lots of ordinary New Yorkers out for a rare sight: a polo game in the city.

The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic was a fundraiser for Sentebale, the charity that Harry has set up with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help poor children and AIDS orphans in that small African nation surrounded by South Africa. Harry's team won, 6-5, on the second and final day of his first official visit to the United States.

'SLUMDOG' STAR'S REBUILT HOME STILL STANDS

MUMBAI, India — City authorities demolished the homes around the recently rebuilt shack of "Slumdog Millionaire" child star Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail but left his standing yesterday.

About 18 shanties were leveled in the section of the Garib Nagar — "city of the poor" — slum where Azhar, 10, and his family live. Azhar's was untouched. The city tore down the same homes, including Azhar's, 16 days ago; the next week, it leveled the nearby lane where "Slumdog" co-star Rubina Ali lived.

The state's top official on Friday granted government apartments to both Azhar and Rubina, paid for with funds from the local chapter of the ruling Congress party. "Slumdog" filmmakers have also promised them homes.

OZZY SUES OVER BLACK SABBATH NAME

NEW YORK — Ozzy Osbourne has accused former Black Sabbath band mate Tony Iommi of taking over the heavy metal titans' name and costing him royalties from merchandise sales.

Osbourne, who sued the guitarist earlier last week, issued a statement Friday imploring him to "do the right thing."

The singer-turned-reality show star, who lives in California, filed suit Tuesday in a federal court in New York, saying Iommi falsely claimed to have sole rights to Black Sabbath's trademark in negotiations over the past year with a company that sells the band's merchandise.
