FORT WORTH, Texas — Tim Clark birdied the 18th hole for a 4-under 66 yesterday that gave him a two-stroke lead going into the final round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational.

Clark moved ahead of playing partner Steve Stricker with a birdie on the 11th hole, then strung together pars until No. 18.

The South African was at 17-under 193 as he chased his first PGA Tour victory. He's finished second six times, including this tournament last year, getting nipped when Phil Mickelson birdied the final hole.

"I had a great final round last year. I'm going to need that again," Clark said. "I'm in a different position being in the last group. I just have to stay calm."

Stricker (69), Steve Marino (62) and Jason Day (65) were at 195. Marino and Day are also seeking their first PGA Tour wins.

Most golfers wore pink as part of a breast cancer awareness project in honor of Amy Mickelson, wife of the reigning champ. He withdrew last week after her breast-cancer diagnosis was announced.

Tournament staffers and much of the gallery also took part in the "pink out." CBS broadcaster David Feherty really took to it, going pink from head (cap, sunglasses and spray-painted beard) to toe (pants and shoes).

CHAMPIONS TOUR

Price in Principal Charity lead: Nick Price shot a 4-under 67 yesterday to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Principal Charity Classic at West Des Moines, Iowa.

Price, the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am winner in April for his first Champions Tour title, had a one-shot lead after two rounds last year en route to a third-place finish. He has a 7-under 135 total on the Glen Oaks course.

Joey Sindelar (67) and Mark Wiebe (68) were 6 under, and Fred Funk (69) and Mark McNulty (69) were 5 under.

EUROPEAN PGA

Two tied in European Open: Christian Cevaer of France drained a 12-foot birdie putt on his last hole yesterday to cap a 2-under 70 and tie Jeev Milkha Singh of India for the third-round lead in the European Open at Ash, England.

Cevaer's birdie, only the second on the wind-swept final green in the third round, put him at 9-under 207. Singh, the overnight leader, made birdies at four of the last six holes for a 71 after making five bogeys on the first 11.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Texas A&M triumphs: Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon hit a gap wedge from the rough to within 3 inches of the 18th hole yesterday to win his match and clinch the first NCAA Division I men's golf title for the Aggies.

Burgoon, a senior and the team's No. 1 player, beat Arkansas' Andrew Landry, who missed a 35-foot birdie attempt that would have sent the match to extra holes. A&M won, 3-and-2, at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
