Japanese pop star Utada to play Pipeline Cafe

Hikaru Utada, one of the biggest pop stars in Japan, will make her Hawaii debut Jan. 15 at Pipeline Café.

Tickets are $30 and go on sale 9 a.m. Saturday at groovetickets.com, Pipeline Café box office, Hawaii’s Natural High and at 877.71.GROOVE.
“This is going to be a huge show for us,” Pipeline Cafe owner Greg Azus said. “She’s an incredible talent and really popular.”
Utada has sold more than 52 million albums since her 1999 debut “First Love,” which remains Japan’s top-selling album of all time. Three of her albums rank among the top ten best-sellers of all time in Japan. She has had 12 No. 1 hits, including four songs in her country’s all-time Top 100. Her 2001 release “Distance” had the largest first-week sales for any album in Japanese music history with three million copies sold.
Utada is also a songwriter and producer. Her latest CD, “This Is The One,” includes 10 songs she wrote.
