AKANA TO NEVADA

Sacred Hearts Academy senior Clarissa Akana, a two-time air riflery state champion, signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to accept a scholarship offer from the University of Nevada.

Akana fired an aggregate score of 548.20 at last month's state title meet to become the first repeat individual state champ since the tournament began in 1999. She led the Lancers to their third team title in four years.

In 2008, Akana's score of 556 was one point shy of the tournament record set by Punahou's Vicci Yau in 2002.

"Rifle" is an official NCAA-sanctioned sport.
