The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for the east-facing shores of Kauai and Oahu until 6 p.m. today.

Wave heights of 10 to 15 feet are expected through this afternoon. The surf is likely to drecrease below warning levels thereafter but remain elevated into early next week, the weather service said.

A high surf warning means that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline, resulting in dangerous swimming conditions and strong rip currents.
