Sunset on the Beach this weekend features "Life for a Child," a documentary about children in Nepal with Type 1 diabetes, and "Monsters vs. Aliens" tonight and three films on Waikiki and hula tomorrow.
While Tesoro Hawaii remains the primary sponsor, tonight's program is presented in conjunction with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Eli Lilly and Co. Tomorrow, Japan Airlines contributes to the airing of "Hula Aloha — the Love of Dance," three documentaries totaling 90 minutes, all edited by Edgy Lee. "Waikiki in the Wake of Dreams" is narrated in Japanese with no English subtitles. The other two documentaries are "Merrie Monarch Festival, the First 30 Years" and "Hula Guide."
The free events at Kuhio Beach start with live entertainment and food booths at 4 p.m., with the films starting at approximately 6 p.m.
More information about Lee's Hula Guide project, a series of films and instructional videos by kumu hula, is available on her blog.
