1961 — Cleveland's Jim Brown rushes for 237 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Browns to a 45-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

1966 — No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Michigan State play to a 10-10 tie.

1983 — Jari Kurri of the Edmonton Oilers scores five goals and Wayne Gretzky adds three goals and five assists in a 13-4 rout of the New Jersey Devils.

1990 — Barry Bonds of the Pittsburgh Pirates is named the National League's Most Valuable Player. Bonds is the first major league player to finish with 30 homers, 30 stolen bases, 100 RBIs and a .300 or better batting average.

1992 — Oakland reliever Dennis Eckersley is selected the American League's MVP. Eckersley, who led the majors with 51 saves in 54 chances, becomes the ninth player to win both the Cy Young Award and MVP honors in the same season.

1994 — Rashaan Salaam becomes the fourth 2,000-yard rusher in major-college history, running for 259 yards and two touchdowns in Colorado's 41-20 victory over Iowa State.

1995 — The Baltimore Stallions post a 37-20 victory over the Calgary Stampeders to become the first U.S.-based team to win the Grey Cup in the CFL's 83-year history.

2000 — Fred Taylor rushes for 234 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries and also catches a touchdown pass in Jacksonville's 34-24 victory over Pittsburgh.

2000 — Gus Frerotte completes 36 of 58 passes for a team-record 462 yards and five touchdowns in Denver's 38-37 victory over San Diego.

2004 — Indiana's Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson charge into the stands at Auburn Hills, Mich., to fight with Pistons fans in the final minute of their game against the Detroit. The brawl forces an early end to the Pacers' 97-82 win.

2006 — Roger Federer overwhelms James Blake, claiming his third Masters Cup title 6-0, 6-3, 6-4. Top-ranked Federer rounds off another dominating season with 12 titles and 16 finals appearances from the 17 tournaments he enters.

2006 — Jaromir Jagr becomes the 16th player in NHL history with 600 goals when he scores in the first period of the New York Rangers' 4-1 win over Tampa Bay.
