Honolulu Federal Credit Union is warning that fraudulent text messages are being sent to its members and to non-members, in an attempt to gain personal and account information.

One message notifies the recipient that their "Honolulu Credit Union" debit card has been "limited" and a telephone number is given to call to supposedly reactivate the card by giving their account number.

In other instances the recipient is told that their account is overdrawn and a contact number is provided to respond.

The credit union said it does not contact its members in that manner to request such information, and is advising everyone to not respond.

It advises people who have replied to these requests to contact their financial institution immediately to prevent unauthorized activity on their accounts, the bank said.
