Expect Thanksgiving jams at airports, state officials say
State Department of Transportation officials plan to add additional parking at Hawai'i airports over the Thanksgiving weekend but urge travelers to arrive early and be dropped off or picked up, or use taxis, airport shuttles or other transportation.
Because of the crush of holiday travel, passengers are encouraged to add an additional 30 to 45 minutes to their airport arrival times in addition to the recommended two-hour pre-flight arrival time, the DOT said.
Drivers picking up passengers should use cell-phone waiting areas, open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., at all major Island airports, the DOT said.
A 15-minute parking grace period at all state airports will allow travelers to use airport parking for free for the first 15 minutes.
Airport security, however, will issue citations to any vehicles improperly using disabled or restricted parking stalls, the DOT said.
