Join us as we travel on the PGA Tour with Parker McLachlin, a former Punahou athlete. McLachlin and Castle alum Dean Wilson are the only Hawai‘i golfers on the PGA Tour. McLachlin, Waikoloa’s touring pro, will write his impressions on events that he has just completed and tournaments that are coming up on his calendar.

Aloha from Monterrey Peninsula, where I played in last week's Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational. This event isn't affiliated with the PGA Tour but is a great chance for select pros to play some extra competitive golf and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in America.

This is one of my favorite events to play in because it has a relaxed atmosphere that us pros really enjoy at this time of year. The combination of the weather, golf courses and incredible accommodations make for a memorable week always.

Leading up to the event, I played the world famous Cypress Point golf course with my dad, Scott Simpson and my playing partner from last year's AT&T event, Doug MacKenzie. We had an incredible day with each other at a very special place in the world.

In addition to playing Cypress I got to play a round at Monterrey Peninsula CC, which will be in the rotation of golf courses for the AT&T in February.

It was good to get an early look at it since I could barely remember it from the last time I had played there. It's another great golf course and I predict will be a huge hit amongst players come February.

With my 2009 competitive season at an end, it is time to reflect on what has been a challenging year with a lot going on.

As I've mentioned in this same space before I needed to make some adjustments in my golf game to achieve the long term goals I have set for myself. I'm very excited about the progress I've been making with my swing coach, Sean Foley, and I can't wait to get back to work.

For the majority of my professional golf career my offseason has been spent recharging my battery if you will and reflecting on the past 10 months. I'm so enthused about my game and about the progress I'm making that I'm considering this my preseason rather than my offseason. That way I simply continue the maturation process and come out at the Sony Open ready to roll.
