City lights contest deadline extended to noon Tuesday
The city has extended its deadline to find someone to help light the city's Christmas tree during the 25th annual Honolulu City Lights tree-lighting ceremony on Saturday.
The winner will be chosen from people who submit a copy of a photograph or any other item that proves they were present at Honolulu's first official tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 12, 1985. City officials do not want original photos.
Contestants also may turn in an essay of their recollections of Dec. 12, 1985. Participants can drop off their entries at any Satellite City Hall in the "Tell It to the Mayor" box, e-mail them to csd@honolulu.gov or mail them to:

The deadline is noon Tuesday.
The winner will be chosen by the Friends of Honolulu City Lights and Mayor Mufi Hannemann will announce the winner at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
