UH women 7th in season-opener

Sophomore Erika Lundberg, a transfer from Sweden, and senior Corie Hou, from Australia, helped the Rainbow Wahine to a seventh-place finish at the season-opening Giustina Memorial Classic. It ended Tuesday in Corvallis, Ore.
The University of Hawai'i men finished 10th in the same event, with a 54-hole total of 914.
Lundberg shot a final-round 76 to move up eight places to 21st. Her total was 236. Hou was a shot back at 78—237. Freshman Ka'ili Britos had the team's best round, a second-round 74, and tied for 27th at 82—239. Senior Erin Matsuoka (81—246) tied for 40th and freshman Brigitte Baker (88—251) was 46th. The UH team total was 952.
Oregon won the team championship at 32-over 896. The Ducks' Kendra Little was medalist by nine shots with a total of 72—214.
The Rainbow Wahine play in the Heather Farr Memorial Monday and Tuesday at Erie, Colo.
The UH men were led by sophomore Jared Sawada (76—226), who tied for 31st. He was followed by Kamden Brakel (78—231), freshmen Henry Park (76—232) and Cory Oride (77—232) and TJ Kua (83—235).
Oregon State won its own men's tournament with a score of 844. Washington State's Trent Sanders won the individual title at 71—207.
Entries are available for the Turtle Bay Resort College-Am Nov. 1. Both UH teams will play.
ISHII PLACES 8TH
Hawai'i's David Ishii finished eighth in Japan's 48th PGA Senior Championship last weekend at Ito Golf Course in Fukuoka. Kiyoshi Murota, who represents Turtle Bay, won the senior tour major.
Ishii shot 70-71-70-71 to finish at 2-under-par 282. Murota won with 66—269.
Ishii will play the Fuji Film Senior Open, Taiwan Senior Open and Japan Senior Open this month, and the Handa Cup in November before coming home to play in the Hawai'i State Open.
MIYAJIMA IN 5OTH
Maui's Shayna Miyajima shot a 4-over-par 76 yesterday at the second LPGA Sectional Qualifying, in Venice, Fla.
Her two-day total of 150 puts her 50th. The top 30 and ties after tomorrow's final round advance to the final qualifier in December.
Kamehameha graduate Mari Chun improved by 10 strokes from her opening round, but still missed the cut at 75—160.
Tiffany Joh leads the qualifier at 71—140, with Gwladys Nocera (70), Tiffany Tavee (73) and Seema Sadekar (72) tied for second at 142.
WIE BACK ON THE TEE
After a week at Stanford, Hawai'i's Michelle Wie is back on tour. She will play in the Navistar LPGA Classic , starting today in Prattville, Ala.
Lorena Ochoa is defending champion.
All four rounds will be shown on The Golf Channel.
