Power back at Windward Mall, nearby Kaneohe neighborhood
Power has been restored to Windward Mall and to some 2,400 Kaneohe residents following two unrelated outages this morning, according to Hawaiian Electric Co.
An insulator that broke at 7:50 a.m. near the area around Wena and Hilinau streets knocked out service to 2,400 customers, said HECO spokeswoman Janet Crawford. Except for some 200 customers around Puohala Elementary School, power was restored at 9:30 a.m., Crawford said. The 200 remaining customers had service back at 11:47 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m., a suspected short in an underground cable knocked out service to Windward Mall, Crawford said, although Macy’s continued to operate on a back-up generator.
For the next 90 minutes, HECO crews gradually restored service to mall businesses until everyone was back up at noon, Crawford said.
