NFL: Rookie cut from Ravens dies in Washington

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — Rookie linebacker Tony Fein, an Iraq War veteran and member of the Baltimore Ravens during the preseason, has died, according to his agent.
Agent Milton D. Hobbs told the Baltimore Sun that Fein died Tuesday in Port Orchard, Wash., but did not have further details about his death.
"It's such stunning and sad news," Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said Wednesday. "Our prayers and our thoughts are with Tony's family and friends."
The 27-year-old undrafted rookie free agent was released by the Ravens in their final major cutdown on Sept. 5. In two seasons at Ole Miss, Fein had 136 tackles (77 solo) in 24 games, according to the Ravens Web site.
Fein was arrested on Aug. 23 and charged with misdemeanor assault on a police officer after an incident at a restaurant at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Fein said he was innocent.
A trial was scheduled for Wednesday in Baltimore, but prosecutors notified Fein's attorney last Thursday that they planned to dismiss charges because of conflicting witness accounts, state's attorney spokeswoman Marty Burns said. Fein was not expected in court.
Messages left for Fein's attorney and Hobbs were not immediately returned.
Hobbs says Fein, a native of Port Orchard, was working out there while awaiting another shot at playing football.
