Honolulu's Sheri Kim and her co-workers — regular players of Pigskin Picks — have a routine every Monday morning.
"Every Monday, we come in to work, and first thing we say to each other (is), 'So, did you get the call?' "
Pigskin Picks winners usually receive an early-morning phone call from radio personality Billy V, who announces the winner.
But Kim left her home early Monday.
So when she arrived at the insurance company office she asked co-worker Phyllis Lau if she got the call.
"No way. What about you?" Kim quoted Lau as saying.
Answered Kim: "I don't think so. I didn't get a perfect score ... or a phone call."
But The Advertiser contacted Kim later Monday, telling her she won by tiebreaker over many others who correctly picked 14 of 15 winners. The McKinley graduate wins a trip for two to Las Vegas and $100 worth of pizza from Papa John's.
Kim, who submitted just one print ballot, said she doesn't have a strategy. "I go with my gut feeling," she said.
Kim said she enjoys going to Las Vegas and usually goes once every two years.
What was just as enjoyable was what Kim got to say to her colleagues: "Guess what? I got the call."
