Sewage spill closes Ala Wai Canal
Warning signs have been posted at the Ala Wai Canal after about 800 gallons of sewage spilled into a nearby storm drain that empties into the canal, according to the state's Clean Water Branch.
The public is advised to stay out of the area until further notice, according to the announcement made on the state's Department of Health's Clean Water Branch website. The spill occurred on Thursday at 2424 Date St. when 1,000 gallons of waste water was discharged due to paper towels, DOH officials said.
The area was cleaned and disinfected, but the Ala Wai Canal is not considered recreational water.
