“Opalavision,” an interactive show about the City of Honolulu’s recycling and waste management programs, will premiere this afternoon on Wakïkï’s big screen on Queen’s Beach as part of the Green Aloha Concert.
The free show, which gets under way at 5:30 p.m. will also feature musical performances by Amy Hanaialiçi and longtime recycling advocate Henry Kapono, slam poet Kealoha, information booths on recycling, urban forestry, water and wastewater issues, and more.
“Opalavision” features young local actors in 3-minute episodes, which aim to be educational and entertaining, on issues ranging from composting to landfill management. Opala is the Hawaiian word for garbage.
The show will air on Oceanic Time Warner Cable’s new digital offering, The Green Channel. Channel 332 features an interactive component that will allow viewers to quickly download any of the show’s episodes. All episodes are now available online at the city’s Web site, www.opala.org.
