Horizon Lines profit narrows to $8.4 million in third quarter
Horizon Lines Inc., the No. 2 carrier of cargo between the Mainland and Hawaiçi, reported third quarter net income narrowed to $8.4 million from $11.1 million a year earlier as antitrust-related legal expenses and impairment charges ate into earnings.
The company, which also has shipping service to Puerto Rico, Alaska and Micronesia, reported lower cargo volume, but it was an improvement over the prior three quarters.
Executives said on a conference call that it appears the worst of Hawaiçis recession is over.
