Fire investigators were trying to determine what started a fire that destroyed one house and damaged another yesterday morning in Käneohe.
Firefighters responded to a 6:47 a.m. alarm at 45-906 Anoi Road and found a two-bedroom home engulfed in flames and a second home on the property on fire.
Four engine companies, a ladder company and about 25 firefighters responded to the call and brought the fire under control by 7 a.m.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said a family of four lived in the house that was destroyed, but that no one was home at the time.
Seelig said a man who lives in the second house suffered minor injuries while escaping. He was treated at the scene by city paramedics. Seelig said the fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the home that was destroyed, and about $100,000 in damage to the second home.
The Red Cross is assisting the family, Seelig said.
