Suspected car thief arrested in Waipahu

A 27-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of a number of criminal offenses after he was found driving a stolen car in Waipahu yesterday.
About 9 a.m. Sunday, a 58-year-old woman noticed her car had been stolen from her home in Honolulu and called police.
Yesterday, about 5:45 a.m. police were sent to check on a theft in progress report in Waipahu. They stopped the vehicle that had been reported stolen and arrested the man who was driving.
After taking custody of the car, a search of its interior turned up property belonging to other people which had been reported stolen from a variety of locations, police said.
The stolen goods were taken to the Pearl City police sub-station, identified and returned to the rightful owners. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, fraudulent use of license plates, fourth-degree theft and unauthorized control of confidential personal information.
