CBB: Georgetown baseball gets 3 years’ probation
Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Georgetown’s baseball program has been placed on three years’ probation by the NCAA because 26 players received a total of more than $60,000 in excess pay from 2001-07 in a work-study program.
The university president says it’s the first major NCAA rules infraction at the school.
The penalty comes about a year after Georgetown concluded its own investigation and reported the violations to the NCAA.
Georgetown says the problem was timekeeping irregularities: Athletes did the work they were supposed to — such as field maintenance and laundry — but were paid more than they should have been.
