Kauai, Big Island home sales mostly higher amid falling prices

Sales of existing homes on the Big Island and Kaua�i last month were mostly up, but median prices were mostly down, according to a report from Hawaii Information Service.

The biggest increase in sales was for condominiums on Kaua�i where sales more than doubled to 15 in August from seven in the same month last year. But the median price for all Kaua�i condo sales was up just 0.3 percent to $300,000 last month from $299,000 a year earlier.
There were 23 single-family homes sold on Kaua�i last month, down from 27 a year earlier. The median sale price was $471,000, down 11 percent from $530,000 in the same period.
On the Big Island, single-family home sales were up 11 percent to 97 last month from 87 a year earlier. The median price was down 3 percent to $310,000 from $320,000. Big Island condo sales totaled 37 in August, down from 32 a year earlier. The median price was down 29 percent to $205,000 from $287,000.
