Council approves nighttime liquor ban in county parks
Lihu'e — Liquor would be banned in county parks from 11 at night until 6 in the morning after the unanimous passage of a bill by the Kaua'i County Council.
Violators could be subject to a fine between $15 and $500.
People with valid camping permits are excluded from the ban.
Kaua'i is the only county in Hawai'i where drinking is allowed in county parks, after a previous county ordinance banning drinking was allowed to expire without renewal earlier this decade.
The ordinance will take effect upon it being signed into law by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.
