Kauai County donates picnic tables to Salvation Army's Kokua Soup Kitchen

Kauai County's Anti-Drug Office and Department of Parks and Recreation recently donated two picnic tables to the Lihu'e Salvation Army's Kokua Soup Kitchen. The donation comes as the number of people served at the soup kitchen has doubled from 50 to more than 100 in recent months. Meals are served on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Read more at www.myadvertiser.com/kauai.

Kalua pig sale will help swimming, water polo team at Kailua High School
The Kailua High School swimming and water polo team is selling kalua pig from the school's imu for $7 per pound, or $30 for a five-pound container. Mail-in deadline is Sept. 25. Hawaiian Electric volunteers to clean Kahe's Electric Beach on Saturday
More than 100 Hawaiian Electric Co. employees, retirees and their families will take part in the Ocean Conservancy's 24th annual International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Kahe's Electric Beach. AUW's Society of Young Leaders collects supplies for homeless students
Aloha United Way's Society of Young Leaders collected more than $12,000 worth of supplies during its second annual School Supply Drive from June through August at Jamba Juice Hawai'i's O'ahu locations (except for the UH campus). Donated items included backpacks, pens/pencils, binders, notebooks, paper, crayons, markers and colored pencils. The supplies will help more than 850 students experiencing homelessness on O'ahu. La Pietra concert tonight brings out the stars for school benefit on Great Lawn
Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the music of Hawai'i's best jazz vocalists and musicians today at 6 p.m. on the Great Lawn at La Pietra, 2933 Poni Mo'i Road. The concert will feature Shari Lynn, Jimmy Borges, the Hawai'i Pacific University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Pat Hennessey, Gabe Baltazar, Rocky Brown and DeShannon Higa. Valet parking will be available and there will be overflow parking available at Kapi'olani Community College with a free shuttle service. Aloha Show will help send St. Francis choir to Spain for World Youth Day
The St. Francis School Aloha Show and lu'au will be on Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the sloping upper courtyard of the school's 2707 Pamoa Road campus. The show will feature Polynesian dance performances by 125 students. Admission to the lu'au is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Pearl Harbor Shipyard awards robotics scholarship to UH-Manoa student
University of Hawai'i-Manoa freshman Lauren Sandborn is the first recipient of a newly established Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard robotics scholarship.
