HPU tops Hilo in Cup final

Chance Bukoski scored on a header in the 86th minute as Hawai'i Pacific defeated host Hawai'i-Hilo, 1-0, yesterday to capture the Hawai'i Challenge Cup at Amauulu Field.
"It was a great win for the guys," said HPU coach Scott Liedtke. "They worked hard this weekend and you could tell this was something they all wanted to accomplish."
Bukoski's goal came off an assist from Jim Terry as the Sea Warriors improved to 2-1 after a hard-fought, physical match that produced 42 fouls and nine yellow cards.
Eduardo Ayala took three shots for the Vulcans (1-5).
In the third-place game, Chris Wood had three goals and an assist at Brigham Young-Hawai'i rallied for a 5-3 victory over Chaminade.
Sam Akinaka added two goals for the Seasiders (1-2). Austin Maher, Jonathan Fukumoto and Nicholas Botelho each had a goal and William West added two assists for the Silverswords (1-2), who led 3-2 at the half.

HILO STAYS UNBEATEN
Kawena Cubi-Otineru had 12 kills as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Alaska Fairbanks, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20, yesterday at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.
Josimara Pinheiro and Leilani Ramsey added 10 kills apiece, and Katie Swenson had 37 assists for the Vulcans (10-0).
Megan Thigpen led the Nanooks with 11 kills.
ELSEWHERE
Calli Scott added 46 assists for the Seawolves. Whitney Viveiros had 15 kills and nine digs, and Courtney Lorusso added 11 kills and 15 digs for the Silverswords (1-8). Tanya Alvino contributed 35 assists and Kristy Inamasu 18 digs for CU.
Alexa Sherman added 47 assists and 18 digs for the Nanooks. Hannah Wilkinson and Tanza Buroker each had nine kills, and Keisha Moeai added 17 digs for the Seasiders (3-6).
Stacie Meisner added 25 digs for the Seawolves. Mariana Souza had 16 kills and Kelly Balanay 12 for the Sea Warriors (3-6). Madison Hardy added 44 assists and Tricia Yoshimura 19 digs for HPU.
