Hawai'i Kai's Gayle Lau found a perfect solution for selecting the winners in the Pigskin Picks contest.

"Bet with the heart," he said.

Lau, 64, retired from the federal government and currently working for the Hawai'i Credit Union League, correctly picked the winners of all 15 games to win the weekly prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas and a $100 Papa John's gift card. Lau was the only perfect online player. One print ballot also was 15-0, but Lau won by tiebreaker.

Lau relied on emotion in picking close games or upsets such as Michigan over Notre Dame, USC over Ohio State and the San Francisco 49ers over the Arizona Cardinals.

"My son goes to Michigan (grad school) ... I'm a USC grad and a Pac-10 football fan and I'm a West Coast NFL fan," said Lau. "That's how I figured it out.

"Most of the time, that'll get you half right."

Lau said he also submitted a few print ballots, putting his wife's name on the ballot.

"It's fun. This is the fun part of the sports year for me. You got football and baseball," he said.

Lau said he goes to Vegas about once a year, "so my wife is very excited about that."
