CFB: USC’s Corp never found comfort zone, which means no QB controversy

SEATTLE — After a strange week, even by USC-quarterback-drama standards, Aaron Corp never looked comfortable in his starting debut.
He forced passes into coverage. He scrambled only twice. He directed only one touchdown drive, which, it turned out, wasn’t enough in USC’s 16-13 loss at Washington on Saturday.
“I wish I had some stuff back,” Corp said. “I didn’t play up to my standards.”
Corp had one pass intercepted — equaling his total from spring practice, when he won the job over Matt Barkley — and could have had more. Corp also came up short on a seam-route pass to an open Anthony McCoy that would have gone for a long gain on USC’s second possession of the fourth quarter.
Corp — who hadn’t started a game since 2006, when he was a senior at Orange Lutheran High — said rust wasn’t a factor.
“I felt I was prepared,” he said. “I just didn’t execute.”
A strong outing by Corp could have ignited a quarterback controversy after he lost the job in training camp because of an injury. But Corp’s 13-of-22, 110-yard performance in a losing effort almost certainly will lead to Barkley regaining the starting spot, assuming he’s healthy.
