Hawaii National Guard sends supplies, personnel to help relief effort

About 100 Army and Air National Guard personnel from Hawaii are on their way to Pago Pago this afternoon on two C-17 Globemaster IIIs to assist in the relief effort following yesterday's tsunami. Of those, 86 are National Guard.
Hawaii National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Chuck Anthony said medical, search-and-rescue and communications assistance will be provided.
The flights also is carrying primary commodities such as food, generators, water, shelter materials and medical supplies.
The flights will also include about half a dozen pool media personnel.
