The chairman of a state House committee has revived a measure to ban shark fins in Hawaii, less than two days after essentially killing it.

Rep. Jon Riki Karamatsu, D-41st (Waipahu, Village Park, Waikele), announced today that his House Judiciary Committee would reconsider the legislation this afternoon at the state Capitol.

Karamatsu on Tuesday deferred the bill, which would normally have ended its chances for enactment in the current legislative session.

He was not immediately available to elaborate.

The proposal would prohibit the harvesting, possession, distribution and sale of shark fins.
