Manago lifts Hilo to baseball sweep

Keoni Manago had six hits and eight RBIs to lead Hawai'i-Hilo to a sweep of Academy of Art yesterday in a Pacific West Conference baseball doubleheader at Moraga, Calif.
Manago hit an RBI single in a five-run fifth and a grand slam in a four-run seventh as the Vulcans (11-19, 7-13) won the first game, 13-4. Kalehua Moniz added a solo homer and RBI single, and Kekoa Lee scattered 10 hits and struck out eight for Hilo.
Darnell Quinney had two hits and two RBIs for the Urban Knights (2-27, 2-17).
In the second game, Manago batted 4 for 5, including three RBI singles, and David Keller hit a two-run homer to lead Hilo to a 10-3 victory.
John Holley Jr. allowed five hits and struck out seven in six innings to earn the victory.
SOFTBALL
MORROW SPURS HPU
Nicole Morrow had four hits and six RBIs as Hawai'i Pacific swept Academy of Art in a Pacific West conference doubleheader at San Mateo, Calif.
Morrow had an RBI single in a four-run first and a two-run double in a four-run third as the Sea Warriors (33-4, 20-2) won the first game, 13-2. Sherise Musquiz, the reigning PacWest Pitcher of the Week, gave up six hits and hit a two-run double for HPU in a game shortened to five innings.
In the second game, Morrow had an RBI single in a two-run first, a sacrifice fly in a four-run second and an RBI double in a four-run third as HPU won, 10-7. Chante Tesoro had two hits, including a solo homer, for the Sea Warriors.
Ashley Lokey homered in each game for the Urban Knights (18-16-1, 8-8).
TAEKWONDO
MCCUTCHEON HONOR
Taekwondo instructor Brian McCutcheon, of O'ahu Taekwondo Center, has been named Volunteer Coach of the Year by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
The Kāne'ohe native has coached several Junior National and Under-24 National team members. Last year alone, his athletes compiled a 104-28 record, and included U.S. Open and Junior and Senior National champions.
McCutcheon was head coach of the Marshall Islands Olympic team in 2008.

CLEAN UP CORP
The next CORP Community Clean Up Day is April 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to rake and bag debris around the tennis complex. There is also a need for people who have weed whackers to help with equipment and time.
