Two people were found dead of gunshot wounds this morning at the Pokai Bay Beach Cabanas complex in Waianae.
Police Lt. Bill Kato, of the homicide division, said the mother of a 38-year-old woman went to the apartment around 9 a.m. and found her daughter and the 33-year-old man dead in the living room.
A neighbor described the pair as boyfriend and girlfriend.
A handgun was recovered at the scene, Kato said.
He said police are investigating the case as a homicide-unattended death.
As investigators culled through the scene at a ground-floor corner unit facing the beach, family and friends gathered at nearby Pokai Bay Beach Park.
They hugged, cried, kissed. At midday, they gathered in a circle of prayer.
The deaths are the latest in a string of violent incidents on Oahu in the past two weeks.
