Josh Slaats tossed one-hit ball over seven innings and Hawai'i knocked off Gonzaga, 3-1, tonight in the opener of the non-conference three-game series before 2,158 at Les Murakami Stadium.

Slaats (3-1) allowed only a fifth-inning double, while walking one and tying a career-high with 10 strikeouts for the Rainbows (15-11). Linsky labored through the last two innings, allowing a run and seven hits for his sixth save.

Cody Martin (2-3) allowed two unearned runs, three hits and four walks in six innings for the Bulldogs (10-14).

The Rainbows broke the scoreless deadlock in the fifth. With two out, Greg Garcia singled after getting second life when a high foul pop between the catcher and third baseman wasn't caught by either fielder. Garcia went to second when the third baseman dropped Kolten Wong's looping liner for an error. David Freitas walked to load the bases. Collin Bennett's two-run single to right moved Freitas to third. Kevin Macdonald walked to reload the bases, but Jeffrey Van Doonrum struck out to end the inning.

Hawai'i added a run in the seventh. Freitas and Bennett hit back-to-back two out singles against reliever Andrew Danner, who was then pulled for Mark Phillips, who walked Macdonald to load the bases. A wild pitch moved the runners up and increased UH's lead to 3-0 before Van Doornum struck out.
