The University of Hawai'i softball team continued its home run tear with five today in a 13-1 Western Athletic Conference victory over New Mexico State at Las Cruces, N.M.
The Rainbow Wahine (28-11 overall and 6-0 WAC) completed a three-game sweep of the Aggies (17-16 and 0-6). UH hit 13 homers in the three-game series.
UH batters have hit 80 homers this season, four short of the school season record set in 2007. Kelly Majam hit her 20th of the season, a two-run homer in the second inning, leaving her one short of the school record set by Kate Robinson in 2008.
Stephanie Ricketts pitched a two-hitter today, striking out two and walking none. The game ended after five innings because of the conference's 8-run rule.
In the second inning, Amanda Tauali'i's solo home run and Majam's two-run shot gave UH a 3-0 lead.
Jenna Rodriguez hit a bases-empty home run in the third and Jessica Iwata added a solo homer in the fourth.
Melissa Gonzalez hit a three-run shot in a seven-run fifth for the Rainbow Wahine, who had 10 hits against the Aggies.
The Rainbow Wahine, who have 15 regular-season games remaining, play a three-game series at Utah State starting Tuesday.
