Hawai'i rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Gonzaga, 6-5, today to take two of the three-game series before 973 at Les Murakami Stadium.

With one out in the eighth against GU starter Jeremy Stumets, Matt Roquemore walked and went to second on Greg Garcia's single to right-center. Kolten Wong then lined a homer to right to tie the game at 3. An out later, Collinn Bennett singled to second and scored on Kevin Macdonald's double to left. Macdonald scored when Sean Montplaisir reached on the first baseman's fielding error.

Zach Gallagher (3-1) went 4 1/3 innings, allowing a run, to keep the Rainbows (16-12) in relief of starter Sam Spangler, who gave up four runs, five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. The Bulldogs got a single and RBI double in the top of the ninth to pull to within one with two outs. Gallagher was replaced by Jesse Moore.who struck out Mark Castellitto for the final out for his third save.

Stumetz (1-2) gave up six runs (four earned) in 7 2/3 innings for the Bulldogs (11-15).

Hawai'i jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With one out, Garcia reached on a bunt single to third and went to second on the play on the third baseman's throwing error. Wong's line single to center score Garcia.

Gonzaga tied the game in the top of the second. Royce Bolinger doubled to right-center with two outs and scored on Clayton Eslick's double to left.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third. Kevin Hawk was hit by a pitch to start the inning, went to second on a wild pitch, moved to third when Drew Heid grounded out to second and scored when Chris Sturdivant grounded out to short.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Hawk singled with one out and took second when Drew Heid singled to first. Sturdivant walked to load the bases to set up Alex Hunter's walk that forced in a run and end Spangler's day. Zach Gallagher came in and Mark Castellitto hit a sacrifice fly to center that also moved Sturdivant to third. Edman was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, but Bolinger struck out to end the inning.
