A 52-year-old Honolulu man died Friday afternoon after the car he was driving crossed the center line, struck another vehicle, then hit a traffic sign.
The man and a female passenger were traveling east on South King Street near the Hawaiian Humane Society around 1:40 p.m. when their Mitsubishi sedan crossed the line and sideswiped a Toyota Celica that was traveling in the opposite direction. The Mitsubishi then collided with a traffic sign before coming to a controlled stop.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.
Police said speed and alcohol were not factors and are trying to determine if the driver suffered a medical problem prior to the crash.
