After tweaking her ankle late in the game, it was a matter of getting back onto the field.

Campbell senior pitcher Katie Manumā had her ankle taped up, then came back to help the Sabers pull off a second win over Mililani on Saturday in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West softball game.

In the two wins over defending state champion Mililani (4-2) last week, she drove in four runs, which included a pair of solo homers in Saturday's 7-4 win. Manumā left the game momentarily Saturday with Campbell (8-0) leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. She said she didn't want to leave her team in a situation like that one.

"I didn't really think about it," Manumā said of playing on her right ankle.

In Tuesday's 7-0 win over Mililani, she pitched a six-hit shutout. The Trojans bounced back from the loss, rallying late against Campbell on Saturday. Manumā tweaked her ankle while she moved out of the pitcher's circle to field a ball, and Candice Matsuda scored on the play to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Manumā was helped off the field, then had her ankle taped up before returning to the game.

"We were going to see if she could go," Campbell coach David Perreira said. "She said she sprained it small. She just wanted to tape it up and see if she could go."

The Trojans rallied again in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Manumā was called for an illegal pitch, allowing Kristi Oshiro to score from third to tie the game at 4-4.

"A team like Mililani, they will never just give you the win," Manumā said. "You have to earn it."

The Sabers scored three runs in the top of the eighth, and Manumā retired the side in order in the bottom half for the win.

"This game, she carried us all the way," Perreira said. "The whole team put in that effort at the end, too. She had some big at bats, two home runs, got on base in the top of the (eighth) inning with a walk to start things up. She's been big at the plate and on the mound. Her changeup was pretty good.

"She seemed like she was determined and wanted it."
