With one smooth left-handed swing, the University of Hawai'i's single-season home run record disappeared into thin air.

Kelly Majam's three-run blast in the top of the second was her 22nd home run this season, besting Kate Robinson's 21 homers in 2008.

"It's definitely an honor," Majam said. "(Robinson) was an awesome player."

In all, the Rainbow Wahine yesterday hit five home runs in the 15-1 rout of Boise State that was halted after five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule. It was the 13th time this season the Rainbows forced an abbreviated game because of the mercy rule.

The Rainbows have relied on the long ball in this high-elevation road trip. New Mexico State is 3,908 feet above sea level, Utah State is at 4,775 feet, and Boise State is at 2,842.

The goal was to sweep the three-series trip. The Rainbows are 6-0 so far, boosting their Western Athletic Conference record to 9-0. The other WAC teams each have at least two losses.

While the goal has been the sweep, the journey has included home runs. The Rainbows have hit four homers in each of the six games on this road trip.

And it all begins with Majam, a second-year freshman who bats leadoff.

Of her record-setting homer, Majam said, "it was a high-and-inside pitch. I usually don't pull."

This time she did. "I'm glad it was out (of the park)," she said.

Majam is now the school's record holder. The UH baseball record is 16 home runs, set by John Matias.

Majam also has hit safely in 17 consecutive games.

This week, the Rainbows broke their team record for home runs in a season. They now have 94. Arizona holds the NCAA single-season record with 132.

"That's pretty high," Majam said.
