Jessica Iwata hit a grand slam and a pair of two-run homers as 25th-ranked Hawai'i pounded host Boise State, 12-1, yesterday to complete a sweep of a Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Boise, Idaho.

Iwata, a freshman shortstop from Līhu'e, Kaua'i, set a school record with her eight RBIs. Melissa Gonzalez batted 4 for 4, including a solo homer, and Alex Aguirre and Amanda Tauali'i also hit solo shots for the Rainbow Wahine (33-11, 11-0) in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. Boise State fell to 15-25, 4-5.

In the first game, Tauali'i hit a two-run homer and three-run shot, Gonzalez added a pair of solo homers, and Iwata and Kelly Majam each hit solo homer runs as Hawai'i won, 9-5. Majam increased her single-season home run record to 23, tying a WAC record set in 2004 by Fresno State All-American Christina Clark.

The 12 home runs boosted UH's school record in a single season to 106 and helped give coach Bob Coolen his 700th career win at UH. He is 700-423-1 in 19 seasons.

VOLLEYBALL

ALUMNI TOP VARSITY

Tony Ching had a match-high 18 kills as the University of Hawai'i alumni beat the varsity, 16-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 17-15, last night in an exhibition at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Ching recently completed an MVP season in the Puerto Rico Superior League.

A crowd of 1,151 watched Maulia La Barre add 10 kills and six blocks, and Jake Schkud contribute nine kills for the alumni.

Steven Grgas had 11 kills, Steven Hunt 10 and Gus Tuaniga eight for the varsity, which began the match with its usual starting lineup before playing the final four sets with reserves.

In an all-alumni opening match, Alex Berganio and Sivan Leoni led the green squad to a 25-20, 25-22 victory over the black squad, which was led by Curt Vaughan and Dan Fisher.

GOLF

FUJIKAWA WITHDRAWS

Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa, citing a back injury, withdrew from the eGolf Professional Tour's inaugural championship yesterday in Southport, N.C.

Fujikawa, who was 9-over through three rounds, earned $917.

Three-time Canadian Amateur champion Richard Scott shot 70—280 to win by one stroke and earn $32,551.

BASEBALL

HPU FALLS, 9-8

Colton Yack had three hits, including a single in the top of the 11th that scored the go-ahead run, as Dixie State beat Hawai'i Pacific, 9-8, yesterday in a non-conference game at Hans L'Orange Park.

Quinn Boyer batted 5 for 6 for the Red Storm (25-12), who scored two runs in the eighth and ninth to send the game into extra innings.

Blake Amaral had a pair of two-run doubles for the Sea Warriors, who led 8-3 after four innings.

'Aiea's Kory Naeole was selected to the OIA Red West All-Star boys basketball first team.

His first name was misspelled in yesterday's all-star package.
