MONACO — Rafael Nadal breezed into the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlos Masters with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Michael Berrer on Thursday and joins four other Spaniards in the final eight.

Juan Carlos Ferrero also moved into the quarters with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

Berrer won his only game when serving at 0-5, prompting cheers from the crowd. Second-seeded Nadal has now won 29 straight matches at this event with his last loss coming in 2003.

"I played better than yesterday," said Nadal, the five-time defending champion. "I played higher, I played close to the lines, and my feeling is I had more control on the ball than yesterday."

He next plays ninth-seeded Ferrero, the Monte Carlo champion in 2002 and '03.

Ferrero held serve easily to lead 6-5 in the final set, forcing Tsonga to serve to stay in the match. The Spaniard clinched the victory when Tsonga's forehand went into the net after a short rally.

Also, sixth-seeded Fernando Verdasco, No. 11 David Ferrer and Albert Montanes all won their third-round matches.

Verdasco rallied from a set down to beat Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 5-7, 6-3, 6-2; Ferrer beat No. 8 Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 6-0, 7-6 (4); and Montanes won 6-4, 6-4 against No. 4 Marin Cilic, dominating the big-serving Croat from the baseline.
