Brushfire burns 30 acres before crews get control

Advertiser Staff

About 75 firefighters last night contained a Kunia wildfire that was driven by strong winds.

The fire was reported at 3:07 p.m. in fallow agricultural lands about a mile west of Kunia Road, across the highway from Hawaii Country Club.

About 30 acres were burned, but no property was threatened, Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said. The fire was contained at 8 p.m.

"It was driven by a pretty brisk wind," Seelig said. "We called in a number of resources to make sure it didn't spread too far." Twelve engine companies, six water tankers and the fire department's helicopter fought the blaze.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
