Environmentalists aided by "Avatar" director James Cameron celebrated a big win yesterday after a judge suspended bidding on construction and operation of an Amazon dam that would be the planet's third-largest.

The ruling also resulted in the suspension of the hydroelectric project's environmental license.

It was reminiscent of 1989, when rock star Sting protested the same dam alongside Indians in an event that helped persuade international lenders not to finance it at a time when Brazil was shuddering under a heavy foreign debt.

The administration of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is vowing to appeal, however.

ETHERIDGE, PARTNER GOING SEPARATE WAYS

Rocker Melissa Etheridge and her partner, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels Etheridge, have announced their separation.

The two held a commitment ceremony in Malibu, Calif., in 2003. Tammy Etheridge, 35, gave birth to twins — a son, Miller, and a daughter, Johnnie Rose — in 2006. The couple used an anonymous donor from a sperm bank.

The 48-year-old singer shares custody of daughter Bailey Jean and son Beckett with former partner Julie Cypher. Musician David Crosby was the sperm donor for the children, who were delivered by Cypher.

Melissa Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004.

EMINEM: FROM 'RELAPSE' TO 'RECOVERY'

Interscope Records says Eminem's new album, called "Recovery," will be released June 22.

It will come out just more than a year after the Detroit rap superstar's last album, "Relapse," which debuted atop the Billboard Top 200 chart and eventually went platinum.

Eminem initially planned to release "Relapse 2" in 2010, but in the record company's statement yesterday he says that the idea of a sequel made "less and less sense."

HARRY POTTER STAR HEADED TO BROADWAY

Daniel Radcliffe is returning to Broadway, this time to sing and dance.

The star of all those Harry Potter movies will appear in a revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," opening in spring 2011.

Radcliffe will portray the show's unlikely hero, an opportunistic young man who rises from the mail room to the top of the corporate heap in this satiric, Pulitzer Prize-winning musical.

YOUNG OPERA SINGER'S FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT

Tenor James Valenti has won the Richard Tucker award, given annually to an American singer thought to be on the verge of a major opera career.

The 32-year-old from New Jersey made his Metropolitan Opera debut on March 29 as Alfredo in Verdi's "La Traviata." He is to make his Royal Opera debut in July in the same role and his Paris Opera debut in September as Pinkerton in Puccini's "Madama Butterfly."

Valenti receives a $30,000 prize.
