Alaska's Barrow High School band, an award-winning 45-piece band, performs 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Museum's Great Lawn as part of the band's island-wide tour.

Known as "the northernmost band in the United States," the band is directed by Ronnie Standford, the 2005 Alaska Teacher-of-the-Year.

Bishop Museum and Barrow's Inupiat Heritage Center/North Slope Borough are two of the six partners in the Education Through Cultural and Historical Organizations project. The band's repertoire includes Carl Strommen's composition, "Nalukataq," commissioned by ECHO specifically for the band in 2006. Other music in its performance will range from Pierre La Plante's "American Riversongs" to selections from "The Lion King."
