ATLANTA — Once Ubaldo Jimenez found the strike zone, the Atlanta Braves had no chance — and the Colorado Rockies had their first no-hitter.
Jimenez (3-0) struck out seven, but walked six — all in the first five innings — in the 4-0 win. He was helped by Dexter Fowler's diving catch on Troy Glaus' drive to left-center field in the seventh inning.
"That was unbelievable," said Jimenez, who gave Fowler, an Atlanta native, a hug.
"I appreciated that," Fowler said.
It's baseball's first no-hitter since White Sox ace Mark Buehrle threw a perfect game in 2009.
After walking the leadoff batter in the fifth inning — his sixth walk — Jimenez began working exclusively out of the stretch.
"In the fifth inning Bob Apodaca, he just came to me and was like 'You've been throwing good from the stretch, why don't you just give it a try?' " Jimenez said of his pitching coach's advice.
Jimenez retired the next 15 batters to end it.
