GO ONLINE FOR ADVICE ON AIRPLANE SEATS, FOOD AND LOST-LUGGAGE WOES
• Airplane economy seats are comfortable if you're shorter than 5 feet 5 and rail-thin. Seats with extra leg room, such as those in the emergency row, cost extra. Seat-size problems are so prevalent that SeatGuru has an extensive database on the best seats for all airlines, and reviews and seat maps for each carrier. www.seatguru.com.
• Airlines charge for everything that constitutes in-flight food. See photos of meals by carrier, reviews and prices at www.airlinemeals.net.
• Airlines worldwide lose about 3,000 pieces of luggage per hour — for which passengers paid a nonrefundable fee. In the U.S. that translates to about one out of 150 people who have their checked bag misdirected or left behind each year.
