Imagine a country where happiness is the guiding principle of government, a people who see all life as sacred and the source of their happiness, a "hidden land rich" with renewable energy, a nation committed to preserving its culture, a government that measures progress by the People's Gross National Happiness.

Local filmmaker John Wehrheim's documentary asks if such ideals can be real. Can this small, isolated Himalayan country protect its environment and culture as they open their doors to the West?

The answer is found in the Bhutanese world view, that happiness can only be found by taking the middle path the path that balances the needs of man with the powerful spirits of nature — that happiness can only be found in that "hidden land" within...
